Becoming a foster family in Texas means providing a safe home to a child in the conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services. Among the requirements to complete before a child is placed: holding current pediatric CPR and first-aid certification.

急救要求

In Texas, the Minimum Standards for Child-Placing Agencies (Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 749) require a foster caregiver to be certified in CPR for infants, children and adults and in first aid — including rescue breathing and choking — before being the only caregiver responsible for a child. At least one foster parent must hold pediatric first-aid and CPR certification before placement; a second caregiver must obtain it within 90 days.

This certification, which must include hands-on skills instruction and testing with a CPR manikin, is recognized by the Health and Human Services Child Care Regulation division and must be renewed every two years. The certificate is one requirement in addition to the home and family assessment and evaluation of parenting suitability.
